Will getting a supplementary Amex card restart my 18-month cooling period?

Hi everyone.

I have recently cancelled my Amex card to wait out the 18 month period and re-apply to get bonus points on signing up. Can I get a supplementary card through my wife’s Amex account and then still access a sign up bonus in 18 months.

My understanding is Yes you can.

By the way, just out of curiosity, when you called to cancel, did they make a counter offer to try and retain you as a customer?
