Should I be looking to earn Qantas Points or Emirates Skywards miles for a trip to Europe?

Hi, being a relatively infrequent flyer, I’d like to know whether it’s best to accrue Qantas points or Emirates miles for the following journey.

Its an Emirates operated return flight booked on Qantas codeshare from Brisbane to Birmingham, UK.

I am completely confused as to which frequent flyer program it would be best to earn and redeem point/miles from.

I am likely to fly this longhaul route every year or so and at some point in the future may or hope to be able to experience an upgrade to business class.

In a nutshell, if you are booking Qantas codeshares you are better off crediting to Qantas Frequent Flyer and trying for upgrades on Qantas operated flights in future.
