Sorry if this has been asked many times but just wondering if people think the AMEX platinum is worth the high annual fee? I’m drawn to it for it’s inclusion of qantas in the transfer partners… I have 450k + QF points so I’m keen to keep moving down that route while gaining some points flexibility if needed
Also, the pointhacks guide mentions that a few of the perks will end at the end of 2025, are these likely to be replaced with other ones?
It’s simply a case of doing the sums. Add up the annual value of the benefits you will use and/or receive from the card, and if they come to more than the value of the annual fee, then that makes the card worth it.
I do find, as a frequent traveller, that the benefits are worth it for me. But if you don’t travel a lot (and, for example, you won’t use the Accor Plus benefits, the travel credits/discounts or the airport lounge access), then it becomes less worthwhile.
Amex has been reasonably good at replacing expiring perks with new ones, so yes, you can have some confidence at least that perks that are due to expire at the end of 2025 will be replaced in some way. Whether they’re replaced with perks that are better/worse/the same as the ones that expire is, once again, totally dependent on your own preferences/circumstances.
Hi @mavmitch,
Yep definitely need to weigh up for yourself “will i use enough of the benefits to justify the high spend?”.
My wife and I used this card last year for a “splurge” holiday to Dubai, Maldives and UK. I did so with the specific intent of wanting the various perks it offered. Better/more lounge choice options in certain airports. The dining credit. Free room upgrades. The travel credit (AUD$450 I think it was). The travel concierge/booking service. We needed to rebook some flights so it was a quick phone call away and was such a pleasure compared to the usual eternity you wait online with some other Australian “flagship” airlines!
On our one trip alone we more than saved the annual fee - just as planned and expected. So yes, it was well worth it. Oh, and you get the points for all your holiday spending too.
Your mileage may vary though.
Best of luck!
