How to book Qantas one world reward itinerary across multiple months?

Hi all,

I am trying to plan a Qantas rtw one world reward business trip for 3 people. Wanting to probably start the trip in Bali or something and break the trip up into 2. First trip to Europe and hopefully going for 2-3months (Greece Croatia Austria Spain Portugal France Switzerland Iceland Norway), second trip few months later going to Japan China and HKG (1month). My question is how do you book this if it’s a few months apart and the reward seats aren’t released yet when I first book the Europe trip? I assume I should be able to book the Europe trip first but would it be hard trying to book a trip of that length? And would I just have to keep calling them and paying 15k points to add the next flights when they get released? :pensive:

Hi and welcome,

Yes, you would have to book as many flights as you can via website at the first go and call to add/change via phone call each time and pay the change fee.

Once you have taken the first flight, you can’t change your itinerary anymore.

Thank you  that sounds like an awfully great deal of work… what happens if you ring and while waiting for them to pick up the flights get taken? Also do you know whether there are certain periods where they release more reward seats to Europe?

My last experience on the phone with Qantas has been much improved for booking rewards flights. They have a dedicated team for using Qantas points and the call wait times are much more reasonable. I found calling later at night, eg 11pm onwards seemed to help get me through a little faster. I also found the website can show reward availability but when you go to book it errors, then I had to call and found they were actually available. It might be a bit of work but when you are lying flat it will be worth it, certainly was for us.

My biggest tip, make sure they issue your updated ticket with new flights within 24 hours, if not call them back. You can lose your flights if they don’t re-ticket within a certain timeframe.
