Does canceling AMEX Velocity Platinum card invalidate the booked free return flights?

Hi there

Has anyone had any first-hand experience in booking their complimentary return flight and then cancelling their card?

I want to close off my AMEX account next week and pay it off but don’t want to miss out on the flight. Will it still be honoured if I lock the flight in and then close the account once I have a confirmed flight booking? Or will closing the account void the flight option?

I think if the booking is confirmed with a booking reference, e-ticket, etc, it will remain intact after you cancel the card.

I’ve done this.

Closing the account after you’ve made your complimentary flight booking won’t void the flight.
