Does ATO spend earn points on the Amex Ultimate Card?

Hi there,

I am looking at the AMEX Ultimate Card, net annual fee of $250 after cash back. It currently has 110k bonus points with 3k minimum spend within 3 months of approval. It appears that government spend (Eg tax with ATO) does count towards the minimum spend, albeit at reduced points accrual. Can anyone confirm this has been their experience?

Just reading from the T&Cs:

Eligible purchases do not include cash advances, interest, fees and charges for traveller’s cheques and foreign currencies.

It seems that YES, purchases with government bodies count as eligible spend and you’ll get 0.5 points per dollar. Good spot though with this, because not every card allows government spend for meeting the minimum spend!

Just a side note: really like the new AMEX website design which clearly outlines points earn and benefits! Makes finding stuff so much easier than digging through paragraphs and sentences of marketing mumbo jumbo.
