Will my hotel bookings be cancelled if I cancel the card used to pay for the reservation?

I’m considering booking a stay with AMEX’s The Hotel Collection courtesy of my AMEX Explorer card. However, given the devaluation incoming, I want to cancel my card within a few weeks but will continue to hold the AMEX platinum edge. I was wondering, would my reservation be cancelled in the event I cancel the Explorer card even if I maintain the Platinum Edge card (which I know is not eligible for the Hotel Collection)?

Hi djtech,

Has this reservation been charged to your card yet? (Refundable or no-cancellation)

If already charged, I don’t see any issues with providing a different card during check-in for incidentals.

If refundable, my understanding is you usually get charged at check-out.
