Hi
I’m traveling to Sweden 23 dec-14 jan and will visit UK in this time. I’m keen to get travel insurance in case something happens to my luggage or trip plans while I’m away and basic medical when I’m in UK. I am a swedish citizen so covered while I’m there.
What’s the best travel insurance for points for a single trip? I’m thinking velocity or Qantas as I’m a member of both.
Hi @jasmiine.w
I always feel a little uncomfortable when people make points a high priority when buying travel insurance. Your first priority should be making sure you get the cover you need. Second should be getting a good price. Third, you should buy your insurance from a company that has a reputation for being prompt and fair when it comes to claims.
Having said all that, you can get travel insurance from Qantas Insurance, Virgin Money, or Woolworths (Everyday Rewards). Of course you should feel free to get quotes from each of them, and also from one or two other reputable travel insurance companies. Once you find an insurance policy which gives you the cover you need, go with the cheapest one. In the event that two or more policies fit the bill, feel free to go with the one that gives you the most points!

Did you pay for your flight using a credit card? Most credit cards have a complimentary travel insurance feature, one that may well be sufficient for your needs. Sometimes you must pay for the whole trip using that card. With others you must just spend a certain amount on flights, hire car or accommodation to be eligible - you must spend that amount before your trip. However, you nearly always need a return ticket for this to work.
At any rate, it is hardly worth paying for lost luggage insurance because the amount of documentation you must provide to make a claim is onerous. It’s the health insurance that’s the crux of the matter. So with that in mind, maybe you just need a policy for your time in the UK.
