Just when I was so close to getting enough points, they are going to get devalued. Very annoying. Anyway, my question was, if I was wanting to try and book my rtw trip before the new update kicks in, what if I need to add to the trip later? Does it automatically update to the new cost? Or because I’ve already booked part of it it would stay at the old price of 318k points?

I’ve never booked a Qantas RTW but with every Frequent Flyer programme devaluation I’ve seen, if you make any changes after the devaluation date, the number of points deducted reverts to the new (post-devaluation) rate. I wouldn’t expect Qantas to be any different.
