Looking to fly return from SYD to Melbourne Tullamarine Oct 4-9 with my fiance. I’m happy flying anything that doesn’t require you to pay for luggage. My parents have more than enough Qantas points. Worth paying them and they book with Qantas points, pay myself on wants or go with someone like Virgin or Rex? I’m a Qantas FF and Virgin velocity member, but have no points with either

If it was me in your shoes, I’d compare the costs in Qantas/Velocity/$ for the flights. Multiply the costs by 100 to get it in cents and divide the number of points required for the same flights (or acceptable flights on the day). If the number comes to <1 cent per point, I’d pay $. If the number comes to 1-2, it is debatable which way I go. If the number is >2cpp, I’d definitely pay with points.
Really depends how much you intend on paying your parents for the points too.
