What are the best use of my points for Sydney - Japan in September?

Hi all,

I have a number of points with different reward programs and I’m struggling to identify the best way to visit Japan in September.

I hold the following:
American Express Membership Rewards (Gateway) - 124,050
Qantas Frequent Flyer - 192,051
Virgin Velocity Frequent Flyer - 62,432

I also have access to:
$400 American Express Travel Credit
Return domestic flight with ANZ Travel Adventures (60 days required before booking)

The best deal I’ve been able to locate is transfer 120,000 American Express Membership Rewards (Gateway) to Japan Airlines via Starwood Preferred Guest and fly business to Narita and return to Sydney in Premium economy.

I’m hoping someone will be able to confirm my calculations, or suggest an alternative.

Hi,

You could do 106,667 MRG->80k Asia Miles to fly JAL or Qantas return business class.

The most important thing for you is to check availability of award seats before you do any transfers. As September is not far away, you may find that it is not the easiest to find availability. You may have better luck with JAL.
