Upgrade vs Companion award with Asia Miles - which is the better option?

Hi,
I have 3 travellers 2 adults 1 child.
I am trying to go PER to HKG return, looking to depart between the 8-11th Dec and return between the 3rd-7th of Jan 2025.

There is no available reward flights for “U class” currently with Asia miles.

I was thinking of either buying 3 fully flexible premium economy tickets and then trying to upgrade.
Or buying 1 adult and 1 child business return and then trying for a companion award.

Has anyone done this? I know getting three seats are hard and my son aged 4 needs to be booked with an adult, so either a paid fare or 2 award seats becoming available.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated

I asked a friend who is an Asia Miles expert and he said there will be next to zero chance getting any award seats from PER. His words “forget it”.

I believe both this method still relies on the flight having award space.

I would suggest still trying if you wish for a miracle but please make alternative plans if you really need to travel at the time.
