Upgrade SIA flight with KrisFlyer, do I still earn VA status credits?

Hi all, question on Velocity and KrisFlyer.
If I book an SQ flight (through SIA, not VA) and then transfer points to upgrade to J can I still claim the Status Credits with velocity?
The virgin website mentions no points can be earned when a fare is booked with KrisFlyer points which makes sense, but I’m unclear if I can claim missing points on the economy ticket.

Hi,

I think for most FF program, you only earn the points/SC from the paid fare. E.g. you paid for Economy and upgraded to Business. You only get that from the paid Economy.
