Transferring Velocity points to Hawaiian miles - is this a good option to get an upgrade?

Hi Guys,

Heading to Hawaii next month and was wondering what would be the best option to try and get an upgrade. Should I transfer my velocity (37k) to Hawaiin miles? or is there a better option?

You can’t transfer velocity to hawaiian miles but you can redeem velocity points for Hawaiian flights

Guess you can’t trust everything the velocity membership centre tell you.

Any ideas on how I’d be able to upgrade not using cash?

Generally you can only upgrade flights in the native points/miles currency of the operating airline.

The exception is alliance upgrades (e.g. *A/OW upgrades); unfortunately Hawaiian aren’t part of an alliance.

The only way I can see that you’ll be a to use points to upgrade is to buy/accrue SPG starpoints and transfer them to Hawaiian Miles (1:1 transfer rate & 5K bonus points for every chunk of 20K starpoints you transfer in one hit).
