Reward Booking on Vietnam Airlines using Virgin Atlantic points - Should I be concerned if middle name is missing?

Hi guys, just wondering if you guys had any advice or experience on this scenario:

  • Booked a reward flight to Vietnam, on Vietnam Airlines (using Virgin Atlantic points)
  • Middle Name is missing on the booking (when booking, it literally just says First Name, Last Name)

Understand the eVisa has match exactly with the passport, but any issues with the ticket missing the middle name?

Unfortunately, it seems like there’s no way to add the middle name from either Vietnam Airlines or Virgin Atlantic without cancelling (but as you can imagine all the seats are gone)

Welcome @dsar,
I’ve had a similar experience with Emirates (Booked on Qantas website using Qantas FF point). My middle initial somehow ended up in the firstname field. They were able to amend it at check-in for me.

If it was me, I’d be trying to get some sort of written confirmation from either Virgin Atlantic or Vietnam Airlines that you’ll be fine to still fly etc… as it can sometimes be up to the discretion of the check-in agent as to how it all pans out.

Best of Luck! :flight_departure:

Hi @dsar

This is a quirk with Virgin Atlantic. I had exactly the same scenario earlier this year when I booked a Garuda Indonesia flight using Virgin Atlantic points. No middle name on the ticket or the booking.

I called Virgin Atlantic and was told that’s their ticketing system: they don’t include middle names, and I was not to worry about it.

Sure enough, I turned up for my flight, presented my passport (with my middle name), and the agent at check-in didn’t bat an eyelid. Gave me my boarding pass and waved me through.

Yes, it’s highly anxiety-inducing. But for me, at least, it was no issue at all, and I was told that it’s common to all bookings through Virgin Atlantic.

I am always told by my other more well-travelled friends in my point hacks group of friends that they only use first and last name when booking flights.

I’ve always used my full name as a habit and the habit stuck.
