I’m looking to fly to Gothenburg, Sweden from Sydney for christmas and want help with booking this with my velocity points.
I know it’s not an ideal time of year but I was hoping that booking the flighs separately and being strategic it might help.
I had a look online and i could look at alternative routes like fly to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Athens etc as its cheap to fly from there to my hometown in Gothenburg.
Dates: fly out 22 dec, fly back 12 dec (flexible)
Any help is appreciated

The possibilities are endless but the timing, and time of year, is your enemy. A couple of questions:
For how many people are you wanting to book? And are you wanting to travel in business class or is economy ok?
A very quick search reveals that there is economy availability on a Qatar flight from Adelaide to Doha via Melbourne on December 23, then both economy and business class availability from Doha to Copenhagen on December 24. But you might be able to find other options as well, especially if you’re willing to fly in economy.

It’s just myself traveling and I’m happy to fly economy. I have about 200k points at the moment and was planning on using cash for the rest or alternatively buying more points.
Is there any from Sydney to Europe? I prefer to fly out of Sydney if possible. From Europe i can easily book a SAS or Ryanair to Gothenburg.

There’s currently one option to get to Europe from Sydney using Velocity points, on December 23:
For the return trip you have options on or about January 12 for economy reward flights from London (LHR), Frankfurt, Zurich and Amsterdam.
