I am planning a trip to Japan for Feb 2026 for my family of 3.
I can’t seem to find any BC flights direct to and from Japan. I have booked Melb - Hong Kong for on the way over.
For on the way home I have 2 options - Tokyo - Manila - Brisbane
Or
Tokyo - Hong Kong - Singapore - Sydney
The first option is the best points and tax wise also travel time, however I have heard Manila airport is awful. Although we will stay over the night at a nice hotel.
Does anyone know if its common for more rewards seats to japan to be released?
Hello and welcome @lucywatson.999.
Without knowing exactly what dates you’re after or which city you’re looking to fly back to Australia from in Japan… I did some searching and came up with the following options. Oh, and I’m assuming you’re using Qantas Points.
Firstly let me say, that your biggest issue is going to be find 3 business class seats, and in particular, 3 business class seats into an Australian capital city. I can find some Premium Economy seats, but no business class all the way.
Having said that, I would be looking at Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific as your rewards seat airlines of choice to fly out of Japan. They service the major cities/airports (Tokyo, Osaka, Saporro) and can get you to Hong Kong as an interim stopover OR I’ve managed to find business class flights from Jakarta - Melbourne that might fit your dates.
Japan Airlines & Qantas
Tokyo - Jakarta (Premium Economy)
Jakarta - Melbourne (Business)
Japan Airlines/Cathay/Qantas
Tokyo - Hong Kong (Business)
Hong Kong - Jakarta (Economy)
Jakarta - Melbourne (Business)
Personally, I’d take the Premium Economy & Business class ones over an economy leg, but obviously it depends on your schedule/preferences/points costs etc…
Use the Multi-City search tool on Qantas website and be sure to select points and flexible with dates. Then it’s just a matter of patient & persistent searching.
