Can anyone please advise me on a 2hr 40 minute
"connect in airport, self transfer with transfer protection"
flying Airlink from Maun to Johannesburg then Qantas to Sydney.
Do we have to clear customs and immigration into SA then rebook luggage/immigration to Sydney? Is 2 hours 40 minutes doable. Many thanks.
Hi,
Are the two flights on separate tickets? Or does the one itinerary cover Maun to Sydney?
https://www.flyairlink.com/en/za/our-partners doesn’t show Qantas as an interline partner to allow through check of baggages.
However, Google Flights show that you seem to be able to purchase these two flights together.
I’m not very familiar with JNB’s transit rules. I personally will likely avoid anything less than 3-4 hours if the flights are on separate tickets. If on single ticket, you should be able to transit and check through baggages. However, best to confirm with Airlink or whoever willing to sell you the flights in one single itinerary.
Some additional info here if you have the time to digest accordingly.
Many thanks. The best value flight combination noted in Skyscanner above has an itinerary to cover both flights, but states "connect in airport, self transfer with transfer protection" with the 2 hour 40 minute.
I can do an earlier flight out of Maun and two separate tickets > a 4 hour transit…
The Google flight option is ++ more expensive so trying to avoid. I appreciate your insight.
Kind regards
Some terms explained.
Sounds like transfer protection means they cover some cases when things go wrong and you miss your subsequent flight.
