I’m planning a trip to France in June, July or August 2019 using points from a combination of Amex and Velocity. I’d like to fly business using my points for an upgrade. I’d like to know what it would be best to convert my points to, what type of economy fare I’d need to purchase, how hard it would be to get the upgrade and how far in advance I would need to book. Thanks
Forgot to mention that I’ve read on your website how upgrades on Qantas work (they appear difficult) so I’m more interested in Krisflyer or another program.
I would recommend that you just redeem a business class ticket outright.
If you have majority Velocity points plus some Amex then you can consider redeeming for SQ flights, redeem by using Velocity points or Krisflyer.
You cannot always use points to upgrade to business class, that option is only available if the flight has unsold seats and it’s a gamble. Also, upgrading using points is never as good ‘points value’ wise as booking business class ‘reward seats’.
I would join Singapore Airlines Krisflyer (free) then search flights on their website bearing in mind they will not open reward bookings until 355 days before departure. Do a dummy booking to find the points (miles) cost and if you have the required points balance you can transfer your Amex and Velocity over to Krisflyer. By joining Krisflyer you will have more chance of obtaining a reward booking than searching a ‘partner’ website.
