Im sitting on gold at 640 staus credits and will end up with around 800 to 900 status credits at my anninversary in March 31 next year based on current trips booked - so a few months to go.
Any tips on getting some large points earning without spending a fortune on flights.

no. there is no secret way. that is the point of platinum status, it’s for very big spenders of airfares (or those lucky enough to get company international travel). the only exception is the double credits promotion but that has already happened this year.
Get yourself to the USA and find good deals on AA first class domestic. Make sure they don’t fit into the new SC regime routes. You can rack up quite a few for much less $ than flying Australia domestic.
