Hi! My family (2A, 2C) are taking a trip to Vancouver from Sydney in 2026. We are building our points but wondering the best way to use them.
We have bee researching usuing Classic Reward seats but alot considering the different routes to take. We are planning on stopp in hawaii for the 1st portion of the trip so really it would be the flight home.
Hi @jamie_gale774,
Welcome to the community. I think the main tip would be to get in as early as possible and book your flight(s) as soon as you see them come up. That’s a very popular route and trying to book for a family of 4 will be challenging as best, in a premium cabin, but somewhat more doable in Economy.
If you’re planning on stopping over in Hawaii on the way to Vancouver, you might want to look at booking a separate stand along itinerary for the return leg. Splitting your itineraries into outbound and inbound trips, means you can lock in your points reward seats/bookings for the legs you desire when they pop up, without necessarily having to wait for the perfect alignment of the stars etc… to book the entire trip in one go.
As an example of what you could do coming back to Sydney:
This works out about AUD$820 which is pretty darn good for 4 tickets. If you’re interested in a possibly nicer economy experience (in my opinion), you could consider flying via Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. This would set you back about 264,000pts and approx CAD$1,569 → AUD$1,711. There are always “options”… each with their own associated pros & cons.
Best of luck!
I’m not quite sure I understand exactly what you mean by your question. Generally speaking, you can “use Qantas points” by booking reward seats (Classic and Classic Plus) or Points + Pay.
Have a look at these articles to help you understand what your options are with each mode of flight redemptions.
