How to best use Amex Gateway points and Velocity points to get to Europe?

Hey there,

We have ~200,000 AMEX Gateway points and 130,000 Velocity points. We are looking at travelling to Europe next year.

My question is in relation to best bang for buck - - is it better to book a reward flight directly or upgrade to a better class? Are there any suggestions on the best airlines considering our point status?

Hi,

You could possibly do 2 one ways to EU in business class or 4 one way economy.

It costs 75k (economy) 139k (business) Velocity pts from Sydney to Europe.

It costs 53k (economy) 105k (business) Krisflyer pts from Sydney to Europe.

Both flying via Singapore with Singapore Airlines.

The above costs is for direct/outright redemptions. For upgrades, you generally need to pay extra for eligible fares (not the cheapest economy ticket).

Hi there, when I search for business flights with Virgin they are closer to 500,000 points one way, am I doing something wrong?
