How best to use Qantas points to get family of 4 to South America?

Hi there,

We are looking to do a trip to South America next November/December (2018) - flying into Rio and back from Mexico. We are two adults, with two kids (the eldest will be 5, and the youngest will be 1.5 - so may not require his own ticket).

Any suggestions on how we could best use these points? Either to cover our airfares, get us bumped up to business class, or any other ideas you might have?

We have bronze status with QANTAS.

Without knowing where you are based, SYD-DXB-GIG, SYD-DFW-MIA-GIG or SYD-LAX-MIA-GIG costs 128k Qantas points for 1 passenger in economy return. Child under 2 year old will fly for free. 2 one ways costs the same as 1 return.
