How accurate and valid are award availabilities on ExpertFlyer?

When searching J award on ExpertFlyer, I saw the ‘Yes’ (NH HND-SYD 1st OCT) on the seat column, but I can’t find the award on United website. Does ‘Yes’ mean the award is available and will be released soon?

I don’t have specific answers but please see the following.

  • There may be phantom awards on some FF program. I.E. a search engine or FF search says there is but in fact there isn't. Not sure about this exact case (airlines).
  • Some awards are reserved for ANA own members for example. These are not made available through partners, e.g. United.
  • Some award seats require booking via phone.
  • Best way forward to confirm availabilities if you are interested in booking via United, is to ring them directly.
  • Redeeming is sometimes the harder half of the point game. Earning is often much easier at times.
