Does it matter how you travel on surface segments in a Qantas OneWorld RTW itinerary?

I want to travel on a Qantas around the world ticket (probably using points) but would also like to sail from New York to London as part of the trip. Would this ‘sailing segment’ considered a ‘ground segment’ or would I have to return to New York from London to continue the journey?
I cant locate ‘water segments’.

You don’t have to disclose what way you travel between the non-flight ports. So you could be swimming across the Atlantic ocean, hot air balloon, train through an underground tunnel, they will just work out the distance to add to your total travel distance.

That’s what I was hoping would be the case. Thanks for the response!
