Do you still get Qantas benefits when booking QF codeshare via Finnair on Qantas metal?

hi there - looking to book Syd to Helsikini - if i do it with Finair, flying the same plane as QF1, its much cheaper BUT will i get a QF flight number to allow lounge access? and will i get the same number of points

Booking with Qantas direct is over $1k per person more

I don’t know too much about this, but a search turned up the following info:

If you book directly through the Finnair website, the flight will typically be issued with a Finnair (AY) flight number rather than a Qantas (QF) flight number. This can impact your eligibility for Qantas lounge access in the following ways:

  1. Oneworld Status Benefits
    If you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold, Platinum, or Platinum One member, you are entitled to access Oneworld lounges (including Qantas lounges) when flying on a Finnair-operated flight, regardless of whether it has an AY or QF flight number. This applies as long as the flight is part of the Oneworld network.

  2. Class of Travel
    If you are traveling in Finnair Business Class, you will have access to lounges, including Qantas lounges, regardless of the flight number.

  3. Qantas Flight Number Requirement
    If your lounge access specifically requires a Qantas-coded flight number (QF) (e.g., for certain lounge promotions or additional benefits tied to the Qantas code), booking directly through the Finnair website with an AY flight number will likely not satisfy this requirement.

To ensure lounge access under a Qantas flight number:

  • You would need to book your flight as a Qantas codeshare (QF flight number), which is only possible when booking through Qantas or a travel agent offering Qantas codeshares.

I’m not sure about the points situation but usually you can link your Qantas FF number to the booking if it was made via a Oneworld partner airline, and the points would be awarded. I’d maybe contact Finnair to see what they say and how many points you’d receive.
