Checked luggage variations

I have a domestic flight on Qantaslink to Melbourne followed by Malaysia Airlines business class flight to LHR. There is no business class on the Qantaslink Dash 8 service to Melbourne. I am a silver Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club member. Normally the Dash 8 flight has a limit of 23kg checked luggage (32kg for Qantas Club members) but since I have a connecting business class flight on another oneworld airline (booked separately) do I get any additional baggage on the Dash 8 flight?

Hi @les.trollope56,
Generally speaking, if all your flights are under the same booking reference, the most significant carrier’s baggage allowance will apply to all legs of your journey. Note - I’ve never flown international from a regional starting point like you’re doing on the Qantaslink flight, but I assume it’s the same, but you’ll need to check to be 100% sure.

The quickest way to check your baggage allowance is to go to the Qantas website and click the “Manage Booking” link. You will need to enter your booking reference (PNR#) and your surname. Next scroll down until you find the baggage section and click the “View Allowance” button:

.
You will be presented with a page similar to the following:

In this case you can see that my allowance is dictated by the 1st Class Emirates leg @50kg despite my flight to Kuala Lumpur being in Economy.

In your case, as you mention, your FF Status and Qantas Club memberships should come into play as well - combined with your Business class booking for the long haul sectors.

Please let us know how you get on… if your Qantaslink flight also has the same Business class allowance (assuming all flights are on the same PNR).

Best of luck! :airplane:

Many thanks for the advice. Looks like, because the flights were separate bookings, the business allowance on MH does not carry over to the Qantaslink flights. However our Qantas Club and Silver QFF do allow us adequate checked baggage on the domestic legs.

Glad you at least have your status and Qantas Club.
That’s a nice result.
Have a great trip! :+1:
