Can you upgrade a Classic Reward flight from economy to business?

Wondering if anyone can tell me if it’s possible to upgrade a point paid economy seat to a business class flight using points?

Have a flight from LAX to MEL later this year I’d love to upgrade!

If it is possible does anyone know the likelihood of it being redeemed before the big to upgrade emails go out?

Short answer: it’s (very) complicated.

The following two Point Hacks articles should answer all your questions, but from my quick reading of them it looks like if you’ve used points to redeem a Classic Flight Award in Economy, you can only use points to upgrade to Premium Economy rather than Business.

If your reward booking is an Any Seat Award, your chances are much better.
