Hi team, I just need some advice on this scenario.
My wife and i are planning on flying to Europe next year with our 2 kids using our velocity points. Having done some research, i discovered its pretty much impossible to find 4 business class flights together.
I have been advised i would have more of a chance if i break it up and find 2 flights on one day and the other 2 on another. Most of the velocity points are in my account. I would buy flights for me an one of the kids using this. I was wondering am i able to buy my wife and other child flights using my points as well or do i need to be on the same booking.
My wife is a velocity member, should i just transfer her enough points to buy the second flight?
You can use your Velocity points for booking flights for others including family members – you do not need to be on the flight yourself.
I have done this countless times for family members and friends. Just log in with your Velocity details, and then enter the other passengers’ names when booking.
If you have enough points, one other option is to transfer them to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. There is a small, but not insignificant, chance that you’ll be able to find a flight with 4 Business reward seats via KrisFlyer. Just make sure the seats are available before transferring the points!
Thanks @sixtyeight. i dont think i will have enough points in time to afford the transfer. i havent done the exact numbers, but from reading things its not a 1:1 swap
just another follow up, the majority of the points are in my account but my wife has Gold status with Velocity. Is there any benefits booking under her name when trying to get business class?
Hi @souheilelkhoury , there is no real benefit with booking from an account with Velocity Gold status except perhaps prioritised phone support if you need to make changes or cancel.
Velocity allows up to four transfer a year up to 125,000 points, so if the majority of the points are in your account, it may be easier to just transfer her points to you.
To answer your earlier query, the transfer rate from Velocity to KrisFlyer is 1.55 to 1 (the same applies in the reverse direction too).
