I’m relocating to London in a few months. So, curious if I can use my Qantas Frequent Flyer points to get return tickets from London to EU region after I relocated?
If not, what’s the best thing to do? Can thees points be swapped with another airline? Or can I use them to get tickets from oneworld alliance?
Welcome @cnalt,
You absolutely can use your Qantas points for rewards flights from London. Your airline choice will generally be those part of the OneWorld Alliance:
Be aware that in Europe, business class usually means a row of 3 economy seats with the middle seat blocked out - and you get a meal. But that’s it. Personally for short 1-2hr hops, I don’t think it’s worth blowing the points on them when your economy experience is going to be virtually identical (minus the meal).
For a long haul flight to Dubai though, it is ABSOLUTELY worth ponying up the extra points and cash (IMHO).
Effectively, in answer to your question, any rewards seats you can search for and find on the Qantas website should be accessible if you have the points. I’ve used points to redeem premium cabin seats for family based in the UK, flying return from London all the way back to Oz as well. It’s all doable.
Generally speaking… yes to your questions. But… (there’s always a but!) you should always be aware of the fare conditions and constraints whenever booking any sort of flight - paid fully with cash or redeemed with points + cash for Fees & Taxes. There are lots of gotchya’s - too many to outline here.
If you book a reward flight with points, you can’t upgrade it - in the same way that a cash fare usually gives you the option to do - either bid points, cash, sacrifice a goat, cross all fingers and toes etc…
For a reward booking, you would [generally] need to amend the booking (call up Qantas) and pay the points difference (in points) and any taxes variation/increase (in $'s). But this can only be done if there is an available reward seat in the higher cabin class. And there are fees associated with doing this process as well.
