Can I dispute a rejected claim for missing Qantas ff points with a partner airline?

I purchased a full price business class fare return ticket from Melbourne to Stockholm via Doha from Finnair. I used my Qantas frequent flyer membership to earn points for this itinerary.

For the flights Doha-Stockholm and Stockholm-Doha operated by Finnair, I was automatically credited with Qantas ff points - no problem there.

For the Melbourne-Doha and Doha-Melbourne flights sold by Finnair and operated by Qatar, I had to submit a claim for missing points. These were purchased as AY 6684 (operated QR 905) and AY 6681 (operated QR 988). Qantas has ruled these flights as ineligible because they come up in their system as charter or cargo flights. According to the Qantas agreement with Finnair, all AY flights 6001-6999 are ineligible.

I am really frustrated with this outcome. Can I contest the rejected claim for missing Qantas ff points? Would I be wasting my time? If I can’t claim the points with Qantas, is there another way to productively claim the points? I can’t see the value in creating a Finnair ff account just to claim these points… unless they can be transferred somewhere useful? I would appreciate any advice from the community. Thanks!

That’s a very frustrating experience for you: sorry that you’ve had to go through that.

However, I CAN see the value in creating a Finnair Plus account and crediting your flights to that. Finnair Plus uses Avios, which is one of the more useful points currencies out there. In fact, I’d much rather earn Avios than Qantas points!

If you want, your Finnair Avios can be transferred to British Airways Executive Club and from there to Qatar Privilege Club. Definitely worth accumulating in my book.
