Can I credit my Air Canada Flight to Qantas or Velocity program?

I recently travelled to Canada return on the Air Canada direct Brisbane/Vancouver route.

It was a very last minute trip and I didn’t have time to research the point alliances that Air Canada has.

I’m now looking into it, and am unsure of how I can benefit from points as an Aussie with Virgin Velocity or Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts?

Neither of them seem to be in direct alliance.

Is there a back way to claim these points with another airline and transfer them? Or have I just flown without any chance of redeeming reward points?

Thanks,
Kristen

Hi Kristen,

If it’s not too late you could claim the points with KrisFlyer and then, if you choose, convert them to Velocity.

Thank you for the tip! I have started this process.

For anyone else interested to know:

Brisbane to Vancouver = 1,841 KrisFlyer points = 1,363 Velocity Points each way.

(3,682 KrisFlyer = 2,727 Velocity Points return, valid for 3 years)

Note there is a minimum of 5,000 points balance to transfer

On the other hand, if I had gone my usual North American route of Brisbane to LAX with Virgin, I would have received 3,500 Velocity points each way, 7,000 return. Plus 80 Status Credits return.

Using the Air Canada route was convenient for my planned travel, but not very 'point rich".

At least I’ve been able to claim something though!
