I currently have roughly 115k points with Velocity and I’m keen to hear the best possible way to use them for a trip back to the UK in December.
The obvious choice for me was to use the balance for a potential business upgrade one-way with Singapore using their transfer facility they have in place with Virgin Australia.
Would people recommend this as a best way to use them? also how likely is it that I will find reward space available after booking the eligible fare type?
I’m beginning to think I opted for the wrong flyer program because I don’t think I’ll ever reach the benefit of gold or platinum status with Virgin thus making me ineligible for their own long haul redemption schemes.
Since you are talking about Velocity program and is interested in Singapore Airlines, I urge you to have a go at looking at award availabilities via VirginAustralia and Singapore Airlines website, if you haven’t already.
Transfers from Velocity to Krisflyer is instant so if you find availability, you can immediately book. Try looking for 1 seat instead if you struggle to find 2 or more seats. Be flexible as to which EU port you are willing to fly into. “Reward” seats on Velocity and Saver fares on Krisflyer is what you ideally want as it cost far less points than the rest.
December is always challenging because it is peak season-> many want to fly for obvious reasons.
If you are not flexible with dates or have to redeem more than 1 or 2 seats, it always helps to book the award seats 11-12 mths in advance (when the dates open for booking).
