Usually I’m an oneworld frequent flyer. However I’m about to get 250k of velocity points from a home loan. Also I have 21k of flybuys points that I could convert to velocity if required.
Ideally I would like to fly two people from Sydney (we could fly from BNE or MEL) to London in business. But I’d settle for the longest leg in first or return in premium economy. I’m not overly fussy about who we fly with.
A quick look at the Virgin site and there’s ‘plenty’ of availability for Sydney to London - I looked at October 2017 as an example. You’re going to need ~280K points plus $$ depending on who you fly and how many legs. For example SQ going SYD-SIN-LHR will set you back 139K + ~$90 per passenger. Conversely, EY going SYD-AUH-LHR will set you back 139K + ~$650 per passenger.
Thank you for the prompt response, I cannot see any availabilty for less than 239000 in October 2017 on the virgin site.
Availability seems poor on all routes I looked at. Are you silver/gold/Platinum status with velocity? Would that make a difference to the visibility of available reward flights.
Otherwise I think I’ll take the $1500 cash, I must say oneworld is more intuitive to find flights, better the devil you know I guess.
There’s defintely 139K points plus cash offerings in Oct 2017 for SUD-LHR. I don’t log in when I search and as far as I know Virgin Aust don’t discriminate in terms of status when searching (I’ve never noticed any difference) - happy to be corrected though. Hopefully the link below will show you what I just viewed for October 4, 2017. A random date with an EY example (so $$ higher than an SQ equivalent).
