Best way to use 18,000 Qantas & Emirates Skywards points for Shorthaul Redemptions?

Hiyya, I have 18k pts each on my Qantas and Skywards accounts and was wondering the best use of them? Me and my partner were planning on going to Sydney from Auckland and I was thinking if upgrading to Business was probably the best use of them since its its about 18k per person to upgrade from Economy. I’ll just have to get separate itineraries since they are in two different programs?

I’ve done Emirates Business on the A380 and want to try a different product, I’m not big on the Qantas 737 Business class but that might be our best option considering it leaves in the morning out of Auckland and I presume I can book upgrades via points.

Any advise would help. Thanks ?

Do you know if your economy flights are eligible for upgrades? If they’re cheaper/sale seats then it may require more points than it’s worth.\r\nAlso, I would think that the 737 J wouldn’t be worth the upgrade either. Depends on how you value your points, and how easily you can earn them.

It is difficult to earn here in NZ but I haven’t booked any flights yet, just looking at options and best to use them. Im solely focused on earning airpoints so wont be accumulating more qantas/skywards for awhile
