Any tips on redeeming award flights from Asia to Toronto with Velocity points?

Hey friends

My wife is Canadian, east coast, and we’re looking to travel over every other year.

I’m well aware of the options to redeem fares on VA SYD-LA (and onward from there), or via KrisFlyer on AC SYD-YVR-YYZ.

What I am trying to find out if anyone has had any luck with redemptions from a south-east Asian hub to YYZ? Which airline, which hub, was the flight direct?

My main points partner is Velocity, and I haven’t been able to find much availability, unfortunately (at least, not direct flights). I’m hoping there are some more seasoned fliers out there than I that have some wisdom to share.

I had a quick look and found the following routes but this involves transferring Velocity points to Krisflyer to access Star Alliance airlines.

SIN-HKG-YYZ (Singapore Airlines then Air Canada)

HKG-YYZ (Air Canada)

PEK-YYZ (Air Canada)

 

Have a play on skyscanner and only select Star Alliance airlines on the filter function.

Test it with major hubs like HKG, SIN, BKK, NRT/HND, etc.
