How to use Velocity points for business class trips to Europe?

Thanks @sixtyeight

The points makes perfect sense… Of course!

And yes, the carrier charges make sense… I still think it’s good value… cheaper than an economy, but you’re in business.

Appreciate your reply

Just to add my thoughts on this for the OP:
The other option is to transfer your Velocity points to Krisflyer and book through Singapore Airlines.
You’ll need closer to 1.6million Velocity points (and/or accrue points through Amex or others and transfer into Krisflyer directly).
This will give you better availability. I’m looking at 4 x Business flights for my family and there is currently availablility into some European destinations for May/June next year.
Other tips:

  • Avoid school holidays and weekends if you can
  • Reward availability out of Australia is sometimes better if you’re willing to put up with a longer lay over in Singapore (Although as poster above says, you might not want 5-7 hours at midnight at Changi!)
  • Try flying into ‘less popular’ European destinations that your preferred airline flys to, but with still good number of flights (e.g. Frankfurt and Zurich will be generally easier than Paris)

Good luck!
